Why Most People Don’t Achieve Their New Year’s Resolution To Lose Weight

Approaching a New Year tends to lead many people to want to lose weight. Weight loss is consistently the #1 resolution year after year.

Most of the time people get disappointed and don’t achieve their weight loss goals. I am going to give some reasons why in no particular order.

Reason #1: Being Unrealistic With Your Goal

Often, people simply set unrealistic weight loss goals. The weight wasn’t gained overnight, but people often expect to lose it overnight. Set a realistic goal with a deadline. Set short-term and long term goals.

Reason #2: Not Truly Committed

“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” ~ Vince Lombardi
You have to make a personal commitment to your goal. If not, you are still just talking about it and when the mood leaves, you have nothing to drive you.

Reason #3: Setting Yourself Up For Failure With A Poor Plan

This happens all the time. People that haven’t exercised in years, think they are immediately going to be able to run 5 miles. They look online or in magazines and go attempt these ridiculously intense workouts only to find out it’s too much for them to be able to do with any consistency.

Same with their diet. They think they are going to go directly from eating fast food and sweets at every meal to a vegan diet. They set themselves up to fail. Take steps with your exercise program and your nutrition. You will have a much better chance at success.

Reason #4: No Execution

Often times, people spend more time excusing than executing. Funding excuses to not put forth effort is easy. Things come up daily that can get in the way of pursuit of your goal. This goes back to commitment. Focus on your commitment and don’t allow excuses to get in your way. EXECUTE your plan. Having a strong support system is crucial to making sure your able to execute your plan on days you just “don’t feel like it.”

Reason #5: Quitting

Obviously quitting is the worst thing you can do. Most people will quit when they get frustrated. No that there will be times when you may do everything you think is right and the scale doesn’t move or maybe you even gain a pound. Know that at these times it is important to not allow negativity to creep in and frustrate/depress you. You will have to focus on positive things like how much better you feel, how well your clothes are starting to fit or even that you are doing this! Stick to it and make it happen!
